The fine print

Privacy notice

There is nothing to sign up for here, and we do not build a profile of you. This notice explains what limited data is involved when you visit, why, and the rights you have depending on where you live. It is written to meet the EU and UK GDPR, the California CCPA/CPRA, Canada's PIPEDA, and the Philippine Data Privacy Act (RA 10173).

Who is responsible

Balikbayan Hub is operated from Antwerp, Belgium (European Union) by Sam Shepherd, who is the controller of any personal data described here. For any privacy question or request, contact hello [at] balikbayanhub [dot] com .

What we collect, and why

  • Analytics. We use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics that record aggregate page counts only, with no cookies, no cross-site tracking, and no advertising profile. To do this, an IP address may be processed briefly to derive an aggregate, anonymous statistic. An IP address can be personal data, so we treat it as such. It is not stored against you and is not used to identify you. The purpose is to see which pages are used so we know what to keep current. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in maintaining the site (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)); where the law requires consent for analytics, only consented or non-identifying processing takes place.
  • Email you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and use it only to read and reply. The basis is our legitimate interest in answering you. We do not add you to any list.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider may keep standard security logs (such as IP and request data) for a short period to run the service and prevent abuse. This is processed by the host under its own terms.

There are no accounts, logins, comments, or submission forms on this site, so we do not collect names, passwords, or contact details here beyond an email you choose to send.

Purchases

The site sells nothing and has no checkout, payments, or accounts. No name, card, billing, or payment information is ever requested, seen, or stored. If sales are introduced in future, this notice will be updated before any purchase is possible.

Outbound links and ads

Links to couriers, banks, official pages, marketplaces, or stores take you to sites with their own privacy practices, which we do not control. If and when display ads or affiliate links are introduced, the ad network or program operates under its own policy, this notice will be updated before they go live, and where the law requires it a consent choice will be presented at that time. As of the date above, no advertising or affiliate cookies are set by this site.

International transfers

The site, its host, and the analytics provider may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where that involves a transfer of personal data out of the EU, UK, or another region with transfer rules, it relies on the safeguards offered by the relevant provider (such as standard contractual clauses).

Retention

Aggregate analytics are not tied to you and are kept only as statistics. Emails you send are kept only as long as needed to handle the matter and any follow-up, then deleted. Server logs are kept for the short period set by the host.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict your personal data, to object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any right, email hello [at] balikbayanhub [dot] com . We do not charge for this and aim to respond within the period the applicable law sets.

  • EU / UK (GDPR, UK GDPR). The rights above apply. You may also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).
  • California (CCPA/CPRA). You have the rights to know, delete, and correct, and to non-discrimination for exercising them. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
  • Canada (PIPEDA). You may access and correct your personal information and complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
  • Philippines (RA 10173). You have the rights of a data subject under the Data Privacy Act and may complain to the National Privacy Commission.

Children

The site is for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 (or the equivalent age under your local law). If you believe a child has sent us personal data, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

We may update this notice; the "last updated" date above shows when. If we introduce something that changes what is collected, such as ads, the notice is updated before that goes live.
